MY CURRENT SERVICE PROVIDER CAN’T GIVE ME BROADBAND – BUT OTHERS SAY THEY CAN…
There are only four ways to get a broadband internet connection. By the wires that connect your landline telephone; by mobile phone; by satellite. Or by wireless.
The Post Office. Tesco. Waitrose. PlusNet. Tiscali…
Broadband suppliers such as these, and others, will all connect you to the internet through your landline. The connection they provide will be the same as that which your landline company would provide. And if it won’t work well with them, it will work just as badly with any other suppliers. You're entitled to something a lot better.
Satellite?
In the remotest areas – desert locations, distant mountain ranges, or at sea, a satellite connection may be the only way to connect. But satellite connections actually aren’t that fast, and they can be complex and unreliable in operation. Because the communications capacity of a satellite is limited, users pay for all the data they send and receive. Satellite connections often prove very costly indeed, as well. You need something that's cheaper, simpler, more reliable.
Mobile phone operator?
Successful internet connections over the mobile network require what’s known as 3G (third generation) coverage. This is the expensive technology which has cost the mobile operators so much, but which is still only available to a few. 3G coverage is provided where demand is greatest – in big cities and densely populated areas. In sparsely populated rural areas, 3G coverage can be hard to find. Where it is available, it tends to be intermittent, costly, and not very fast. Even if it works for you, you deserve much better value for money.
Why wireless?
Wireless communications have been around for decades. Digital wireless connections are fast and reliable. They can be used to link any points that are within sight of each other, over surprisingly long distances. In the UK, there are scores of community wireless networks, quietly providing dependable high-speed broadband to locations that simply can’t get fast internet access any other way. Village Networks was one of the first, and we'll be happy to connect you and your community.
